Stag's Head

Easily my favourite bar in Dublin. Stag's Head, 1 Dame Court, Dublin 2.
Hidden away from Dame Street, with a little mosaic in the pavement showing the way from the main road. Beautifully aged interior, very attentive bar staff, several different rooms, lovely low level lighting. And an enormous stag's head on the wall. I do wonder how they manage to keep their head up...

Fringe Festival at Dublin was great this year. We tried out The Dedalus Lounge, A fabulous treat! And who could resist a blurb that describes it as jet black?? Great actors, entertaining story, well designed set.

From the website: “In Dublin, all the real theatre is in the pubs..”
The Dedalus Lounge is a grungy old city-centre bar that’s somehow managed to remain stubbornly intact despite the tsunami of Modern Ireland that has crashed down all around it. Old college buddies Daragh, Danny and Delphine are regulars there. Over Christmas drinks they reflect on recent triumphs and tragedies. A jet-black Christmas tale of desperation, casual sex, bereavement, shoplifting and Freddie Mercury impersonations.

Dedalus Lounge is written by 2006 Stewart Parker Award Winner, Gary Duggan, (Fishamble’s MONGED) and is directed by Alan Kinsella.

if that moose head doesn't scare you off, nor the heaving mass of clubbers downstairs, the Arlington is a fab place to stay in Dublin. www.arlington.ie As our cabbie put it, "it's a lively spot", but thankfully quiet rooms and perfectly located on the north bank of the river Liffy, just opposite Temple Bar.

Forever the tourist, I was terribly excited to go to a WebGuild evening at the hallowed halls of Google. The talk on Mobile Futures was rather lame, in comparison to what we are working on ourselves. But the excitement of the venue was very much entertaining in itself. The highlight, no doubt, were the japanese toilets. On my last trip to Japan I was too intimidated to try out all the buttons whose labels I couldn't read [after four years of learning Japanese...] but here was an exemplary in English!

Finally! I've found time to visit my dear friend in her new home in Scotland. Very excited about getting to drive up there. Always begets the question of why I think I need to live in huge cities. The view of the Clyde from the balcony and the amount of space you can afford really make you wonder why I am so stubborn about living in London. Dreamy landscape, friendly people, fresh air, cheap stables. Bliss! Not so good for web design me thinks.. Should have stuck to psychology or veterinary medicine to have a more portable life. Although interconnection is supposed to make you mobile, it doesn't seem to work out like that - working remotely from the highlands...

Mini Road Trip to Scotland - first stop, World Bagpipe Championships in Glasgow. Who could object an afternoon of drooling at lots of men in skirts :D Awesome!
